Our exclusive partner, the Melitta Clinic is currently working intensively on the development of a new generation of assistive robotic systems specifically designed for the rehabilitation of the upper and lower extremities. Building on decades of practical experience with robotic therapy devices and their clinical application, our current development work incorporates extensive insights from daily use and scientific studies. This enables us to significantly further develop the efficiency and effectiveness of the new solutions and sustainably increase therapy success for patients.
At the heart of the new developments is an innovative, collaborative feedback technology that allows the systems to respond continuously and in real time to the patient's physiological state. The intelligent control system dynamically and automatically adapts the therapy setting – for example, by adjusting resistance, movement deflection, or movement speed – thus offering a highly individualized training experience. This technology ensures that each therapy session is optimally tailored to the respective rehabilitation progress.
Technologically, the new systems rely on modern industrial drive concepts, which, in combination with advanced composite material technologies, create an extremely compact, yet but also enable a mechanically resilient and durable construction. The resulting reduction in the weight of the systems brings several advantages: higher loads can be realized during training and greater movement dynamics can be achieved without compromising mechanical integrity or safety. Furthermore, the optimized design significantly reduces maintenance requirements, which significantly increases operational readiness and availability in everyday clinical practice.
The devices' enhanced physical properties also open up new application possibilities beyond traditional neurological and orthopedic rehabilitation. Particularly in sports rehabilitation and performance-oriented medical training, the systems offer real added value thanks to their high adaptability and resilience. They enable athletically active patients to be returned to a higher level of performance in a targeted and efficient manner – with individually scalable therapy plans and training intensities.
Another key aspect of the new generation is consistent and structured data collection. All measurement data obtained during therapy – such as force progression, movement patterns, or repetition rates – is recorded in a central patient database. This database is fully integrated into the clinical information system via a standardized HL7 interface. integrated. This allows all relevant information to be seamlessly transferred into the electronic patient record. This not only allows for complete documentation of the course of therapy, but also allows for further data-based analysis and optimization of rehabilitation measures by treating professionals.
